News is making the rounds in the technology world about the return of commodore with an emulator-equipped smartphone.
Why so hype over commodore’s return?
Most people tend to get misty-eyed when they hear about the great Commodore 64. “What is with commodore?” you may say. However, just to remind you about the greatness of its role; Commodore was the few of those machine technologies which pushed an entire generation or elevated them into the personal computing arena.
This time with Android-
After adequate change of hands since 20 years, Commodore name has returned as an Android-powered device- a smartphone.
The Commodore PET (named after the Commodore's first full-featured computer from 1977) has a 5.5 inch display, a 1.7GHz octa-core Mediatek processor, a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a 3000 mAh battery.
The PET also consists of two custom emulators. These enable us to alter the device to return to our nostalgic Commodore 64 as well as Amiga games (California Games, here I come).
The PET is estimated to cost around US$300 for a 16 GB model. This includes a 32 GB microSD card. However, true Commodore fans won’t mind spending $US360 for the 32 GB version. You can even covert the latter into your favorite Commodore "64"after combining it with additional storage.
You will be able to buy this phone initially in Italy, France, Poland and Germany. Gradually it will be available in other countries.
