Microsoft Corp is allegedly determined to shun its Web display advertising business. A person close who is aware of the matter said, “Microsoft is going to soon transfer over its Web display operations to AOL Inc. and AppNexus Inc.”

What will be the impact?

Around 1,200 jobs will be impacted at Microsoft. Some designations will be transferred over to AOL and AppNexus, said an official closely affiliated with the event. The person who chose to maintain his identity hidden, however expressed that the deal is yet to be announced. The person said, “Some employees will be working at Microsoft, while others will lose their jobs.”

Why this move?

Microsoft has decided to shed the business as Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella wants to focus on 3 key areas: personal computing, cloud platforms and business productivity.

After becoming CEO early last year, Satya Nadella is working towards streamlining the workforce, and acquiring cloud software makers.

What remain to be disclosed are the financial terms of the deal.
